Minister: Bryan Christmas -Email Us- What we believe... -How we worship- There are probably a lot of things you have heard about the Church of Christ. You may have heard that we believe that we are the only Christians going to heaven. Yes, we are confident of our own salvation but we do not put ourselves in the place of God to judge the eternity of another man’s soul. You may have heard that we don’t believe in music. It’s not that we don’t believe in music as much as we don’t feel that God has desired the use of mechanical instruments in His worship service. Search the New Testament if you will, and see what kind of musical worship God desires. (Heb. 13:15, Col. 3:16, Eph 5:19) You may have heard that we believe there is saving power in the waters of baptism. While we hold to the scriptures that baptism is a necessary step in obtaining our salvation, the power is not in the water but in what the water represents: the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. (Romans 6:1-4) And there may be some other things you have heard about the Church of Christ and our beliefs. We would invite you to come and spend some time with us in worship to God and in bible study and prayer and see what you think once you’ve spent some time with us. Let us take this opportunity to give you a few facts about our church: We believe the bible is the infallible word of God written by men inspired by the Holy Spirit. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)We take from this word the manner in which we worship, the way we live, and the means by which we can obtain salvation. We don’t use creeds or church manuals to dictate matters of the church but rather we search the scriptures for the answers God has given. We believe that Christ built His church (Matt 16:18, Acts 2) and that we should honor Him by recognizing that the Church is His which he not only built but died for (Acts 20:28). These reasons along with “Churches of Christ” being mentioned in Romans 16:16 are why we identify ourselves the way we do. We are Christians. The bible signifies followers of Christ as Christians (Acts 11:26) and that is simply what we desire to be. Followers of Christ. We are not perfect and don’t profess to be. We are all at different levels of maturity in our Christian walk with the Lord. Our aim and goal are simple. “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' 31 The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these." (Mark 12:30-31)
